The latest installer package can be found on the TCF Downloads page on the Optec website. The software is provided in a single zipped file. Most modern operating systems can open the zipped file natively. With Windows XP, a separate program to unzip the compressed file may be required.
NOTE: The ASCOM Local Server is a 32-bit only application. TCF-S Commander is also 32-bit only, but will operate on either 32-bit or 64-bit operating systems.
After downloading the current zip file, save it to your Download folder or your desktop. Double-click to extract the files. The unzipped folder will contain two files- OptecTCF-S_Installer(x.x.x).msi and setup.exe. Double-click Setup.exe to begin the installation.
The default location for the program files is in the Program Files folder for 32-bit systems, or Program Files (x86) for 64-bit systems. The installer will create subfolders \Optec\TCF-S\ by default. Alternatively, the user can specify any other location for the files during the installation.
Be default, the installer package will place the TCF-S Commander shortcut in the Windows Start menu for Windows 7 and earlier:
Start -> All Programs -> Optec -> TCF-S
Right-click the shortcut and select Delete to remove it from your Start menu.
For Windows 8 and above, a new tile will be added to the Start Screen. Swipe or scroll to the right to locate the TCF-S Commander tile. Alternatively, you may type "TCF-S" in to the Search box to locate the tile.
The installer will place a shortcut for the Optec TCF-S Focuser control program on the desktop, by default. If the shortcut does not appear, navigate the Start menu and right-click on the Optec TCF-S Focuser program. Select "Send to" - "Desktop (create shortcut)" to place a new shortcut on the User's Desktop. Double-click this shortcut to start the program.
By default, the program files for TCF-S Commander and the ASCOM Local Server components are located in the following folders:
C:\Program Files\Optec\TCF-S for Windows 32-bit systems,
C:\Program Files (x86)\Optec\TCF-S for Windows 64-bit systems
Deleting or removing any of the files in this folder or any of its sub-folders could cause the application to cease to function properly. Additionally, ASCOM parameters are placed in the system registry.
Logged events will appear in the Event Logger uner Optec TCF-S Log. To view the log, open Computer Management and navigate to Systems Tools, Event Viewer, Applications and Services Logs, Optec TCF-S Log.
