What Is The IFW and the IFW 3?

The IFW 2" (or IFW) Intelligent Filter Wheel is an easy-to-use filter wheel designed to maximize the color imaging capabilities of any astrophotographer. The IFW is so named because it is capable of storing and recalling filter names and locations for up to twenty-five filters over multiple wheels. No longer will you have to worry about mistakenly using the wrong filter for the job, as the IFW control box does all of the work! Moreover, changing filters and wheels is an easy task that does not require removing the filter wheel from the telescope.

The IFW 3" Intelligent Filter Wheel is the larger cousin of the IFW 2". It has all of the intelligence and ease of use as the IFW, but comes in a bigger package. Though the IFW-3 supports the same 50mm line of filters available for the IFW, to make the best use of the IFW-3's larger aperture, Optec has designed a set of 58mm and 50mm square filters. These filters and wheels maintain the same standards of quality and transmissivity as their as well as their circular counterparts.  

IFW Controller is a new control software for these devices. It allows for up to six separate devices to be controlled from the same program. All functions normally provided by the wheels are controlled from within this software.
