Introduction

What is a Driver?

A driver is not an executable application. That means that is not intended to be run independently. A driver is a tool that another application, such as your favorite planetarium application, can use to communicate with a specific device. ASCOM drivers all utilize standard interfaces which specify exactly how they must pass data too and receive data from client applications. The use of ASCOM drivers enables software writers to develop a program that can interact with any device without knowing exactly how that device works.
